On the Road with Outreach ’07

2/16/07

outreach In the Starting Lines section of the February and upcoming March issues, Hoof Beats writes about some exciting member outreach events involving George Teague and Roger Hammer. This program that brings leading horsemen to various USTA districts is just one element of the USTA Outreach Program, which joined the Communications Department and Hoof Beats in January.

The Outreach Program is designed to promote the Standardbred as a race horse as well as one of the best pleasure horses available today, and to generate interest among our youth. While on the road promoting the breed, the Outreach program also focuses on benefiting our 25,000 members through seminars headed by Outreach Coordinator Jamie Rucker. An outreach representative is available at each of the four Blooded Horse Sales, the Standardbred Sale at Harrisburg, new track openings and major racing events throughout the United States.

As the April showers come, Outreach starts its eight–month tour in Columbus, Ohio with the 2007 Equine Affaire, April 12–15 at the Ohio Expo Center. Visit www.equineaffaire.com for more information.

We also will be on hand at the Blooded Horse Sale at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Delaware, Ohio, May 7–8. For more information on the sale, visit www.bloodedhorse.com . May 17–20 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds is the USTA Driving School, where students enjoy a weekend of learning, grooming and jogging horses. Contact the USTA at 877–800–8782, ext. 3281 to save your spot today.

This June stay tuned to www.ustrotting.com for a New Owners Seminar near you. At the Hanover Shoe Farms sponsored events you can learn the pros and cons to owning a Standardbred. View actual training bills from trainers in your area and learn what ways would best fit your investment and involvement in harness racing.

Join us at Walker Standardbred Farm July 21 in Sherman, Ill., for our second ever Yearling Prep Seminar, part of an ongoing effort to educate our members. Also in July, drive south and join Teague Jr. at the Neshoba County Fair in Mississippi , where he will be on hand for a question–and–answer session with the Mississippi Trotting Association horsemen.

In the midst of preparing yourself for the busiest time of summer, plan to see our Outreach booth on the road at The Meadowlands for the 2007 Hambletonian. The outreach booth will be near Paddock Park on Aug. 3 and in the grandstand for Hambletonian Day festivities on Aug. 4.

If you missed the Yearling Prep Seminar in July, or live closer to Hanover, Pa., join us at Hanover Shoe Farms for the last Yearling Prep Seminar of 2007 on Aug. 18. Join the USTA and Dr. Bridgette Jablonsky in learning how to prep your yearlings for sale.

To close out August, we will once again bring the USTA to you at the Blooded Horse Sale at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Delaware, Ohio on Aug. 27 and 28 .

In September join us at our biggest event of the season, the Delaware County Fair at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio. Our outreach tent will be open Sept. 16–Sept. 20 – Jug Day! We will also head west once again to Balmoral Park for the 2007 Illinois Super Night on Sept. 15.

November brings us to Harrisburg for the annual Standardbred Horse Sale Company’s sale Nov. 4–10 . Visit www.theblackbook.com for more information.

Upon arrival home to Ohio, the Outreach Booth will visit its last Blooded Horse Sale of 2007, November 12–15. To view the catalog or to enter your horse, visit www.bloodedhorse.com .

The Outreach Center link at www.ustrotting.com is your highway to finding the best option for adoption, the nearest Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization to join, information on Amateur Driving Clubs, the schedule of new owner seminars, horsemanship seminars, track openings and major racing events!

Please remember that Outreach is here to serve you. If you would like to suggest our appearance at an event, or request a celebrity horseman to speak in your area, please contact Jamie Rucker at 877.800.8782, ext. 3260, or e–mail jamie.rucker@ustrotting.com .
