The Hoof Beats Photo Contest has returned for 2008!
Rules | Entry FormWe will offer three divisions—PROFESSIONAL (for those who have been paid more than $500 lifetime for their photography), AMATEUR (limited to entrants who receive less than half of their income from photography) and PHOTO ILLUSTRATION (open to amateurs and professionals).
Winning photographers will receive an award certificate from Hoof Beats and their photos will be published in the October 2008 issue.
All photographs must relate to some aspect of the Standardbred horse and/or the sport of harness racing. Photo may have been taken at any time, but must have been taken by the contestant. Photos that have previously been published, that are pending publication, or have won any photo contest are ineligible. The horse(s)'s USTA-registered name or specific location where photographed (i.e. “ Hanover Shoe Farms, Hanover , PA”) must be included on the entry form. GENERAL RULES:
Subject of Contest: All photographs must relate to some aspect of the Standardbred horse and/or the sport of harness racing. If not pictured in racing harness or in a Racing Under Saddle event, the horse(s)’s USTA-registered name or specific location where photographed (i.e. “Hanover Shoe Farms, Hanover, PA”) must be included on the entry form. Photos cannot be digitally manipulated, except in the PHOTO ILLUSTRATION category, which will recognize photographers for their artistic manipulations.
Eligibility:
Each photo must have been taken by the contestant. Photos that have previously been published, that are pending publication, or have won any photo contest are ineligible. Prints with identification marks, signatures, etc. on their fronts are ineligible. The contest is open to everyone with the exception of employees of the United States Trotting Association and members of their families.
Fee:
There is no entry fee.
Number of Entries:
Each contestant may submit up to three photographs.
Format:
The contest is open to original digital files (not resized—minimum size 300 dpi at 4-by-6), black and white prints, color prints and color slides. NO COLOR PHOTOCOPIES. Prints must be no smaller than 4 x 6 inches and no larger than 8 x 10 inches. Each photograph must have a completed Official Entry Form (a photocopy of the form is acceptable) attached to its back—please tape; do not staple. Slides should be submitted in plastic or cardboard frames (do not send glass-mounted slides), marked with the photographer’s name, phone number, and address, with a completed Official Entry Form taped to the bottom edge of the frame.When mailing your entries, place photos and slides between cardboard in the envelope, and write the warning “Photos—Do Not bend” on the envelope.
Deadline:

Judging:
The winning entries will be selected, based on originality and technique, by a several-member jury in August 2008. The jury’s decision will be final.Publication:
Submission grants Hoof Beats and the U. S. Trotting Association a non-exclusive license to use submitted photographs in print, electronic, and other media for purposes of advertising and promotion, with appropriate credit to the photographer. Copyright of submitted photos remains with the contestant. Photos or slides will not be returned. If you wish your photo or slide to be returned, please include a postage-paid envelope with your entry.Claim of Ownership:
Contestants must own all rights to the works submitted and model releases are the contestant’s responsibility.Responsibility:
Special care will be taken in handling all entries. However, Hoof Beats and the U.S. Trotting Association cannot be held responsible for loss, damage or delays occurring during transportation or judging.
